Birthday cake I made for my son 4 years ago

My blog's first birthday!

I’m so happy, I can’t believe this day arrived. A year ago I had many doubts regarding this blog, and one of them was if I could get to this moment, and I made it! Without any kind of obligation, it’s been a journey of pure pleasure and fun!

I’ll list the main conclusions I’ve come up with about what this dear blog has meant to me during this first year, and then I’ll include a short story of how I started it.

  • Having a blog has encouraged me to draw and paint: I love both things, but without the blog I wouldn’t have done even the very few works I could finish this year.
  • I met wonderful people through the contact on their blogs and mine. I value a lot the friendships and the closeness that we have been building during this year.
  • It has been an opportunity to show what I like to do, I had not done it before, and it feels so good :)
  • My blog turned into a personal space. I don’t go out much to do things for myself, and I dedicate a lot of my time to my kids. So my blog has turned into a "child-free" oasis, where I find special company and encouragement to paint.
  • In addition to all that, it’s nice to say once in a while “I have a blog”, that makes me feel important :)

I’ll take this opportunity to thank everyone that follows and/or leaves comments. I have seen on other blogs margin announcements that say “Your comments feed my blog”, and that’s true, although it should say “Your comments feed my soul”…

This blog was born with no clear objectives and no fancy pretensions, and practically in the blink of an eye. I had been following (visiting) some blogs about colored pencils and painting, I had even left a few comments anonymously because I had no blogger account. Until I found Karin Jurick’s blog (Different Strokes From Different Folks). I couldn’t leave any of the comments I wanted to leave there because I had no account, but at that time I thought I had to have a blog to do so :) and as I had a few drawings kept, I jumped in and started my blog (and participated in some of the DSFDF’ challenges until I had no time anymore).

But even though things were not crystal clear in my mind about blogging, I did know I had been wanting to paint more for a long time. And this little blog has most definitely helped me a lot to do that. I would have never thought of drawing in the waiting room of my son’s classes or outside my daughter’s ballet classes if I hadn’t had anything to post for the following week. I’m very grateful for that.

And if you’re reading these lines right now, I am VERY grateful too :)

Big hugs!

Well, well! You're a one-year blogger. One who can't wait to be in a waiting room so that you can "do your thing".

Happy blog anniversary to you, happy blog anniversary to you, happy blog anniversary dear Carolina, happy blog anniversary to youuuuuuuuuuuuu! And many more!!!!! (My apologies to the "birthday song"!)

You're one of the people who "makes my day" when you visit my blog and leave your comment(s). You're always upbeat, positive, encouraging or HONEST (usually ALL of those) to one who needs all of that in my painting! Your honesty has helped me improve more than you can ever know.

Thank you for being my friend - blog or no blog.
Happy blog anniversary!

Muchas besos, muchas gracias y muchas abrazos,
Ken B.

Hi Carolina,
Congrats on your one year anniversary! I too started one because of the Different Strokes blog and have found it really motivates me to paint as well. The best part is though getting a glimpse into other artists lives all over the world. Looking forward to another year of your posts!
Cheers Barb

Felicidades Carolina!! Verdaderamente has conseguido sacarle jugo a la experiencia.

HOLA CAROLINA. GRACIAS POR TU INTERÉS POR MIS DIBUJOS. EL CHARANGO QUE EN COLOMBIA SE LLAMA GUACHARACA, ES UN INSTRUMENTO BÁSICO EN LA MÚSICA VALLENATA. RAFAEL ESCALONA ES EL COMPOSITOR MÁS FAMOSO Y CLÁSICO DÉL VALLENATO Y LE DIBUJÉ UN ARMADILLO EN EL HOMBRO PORQUE UNA DE SUS CANCIONS SE LLAMA EL JERRE-JERRE (ARMADILLO).
SALUDOS

Carolina dijo...

¡Hola Omar!
Carolina

Congratulations and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your blog! :)
Thank you so much for your comments again Carolina, and I appreciate them so much.
I am never really good at anything, I am just experimenting the whole time actually, and experimenting is what I'll keep doing I am sure. Drawing in public isn't really my thing, but you're right... I should do more often just to get used to it.
I really really like your drawings I think they are so wonderful!

Carolina dijo...

Hi Alex!
Thank you. You're welcome :) I know it's not easy to accept that you are really talented, but listen to me: you are!
Thanks a lot again :)

Happy birthday, Caro. I am so glad your blog is doing well and in the company of friends that like to do the same you do: paint. I have been a silent witness of all the passion you put into painting and into your blog. Even though I have not made many comments in this site I am very proud of what you have made out of hard work, effort and dedication. The house is full of your drawings and painting materials and it makes the place more fun.
¡Let them be more!

Carolina dijo...

Carolina dijo...

Hola Marisol :)
