Visiting Family

This week I was able to take advantage of a couple of moments every day, during the mornings while the kids were at school, to finish a cp painting. I decided to do it since I saw the reference photo on the Monthly Sketch Project Blog because I found it very beautiful and within my technical abilities. This photo was taken by Gillian Mowbray from the The Fading Rose blog.

It’s been a while since I hadn’t painted with my beloved colored pencils and I was already missing them.

I also gave a try to the photo proposed on the Una Idea Mucho Arte blog (One Idea Lots of Art Blog – under my translation), in oil. It ended up so bad and disastrous that I can’t show it to no-one! The painting is impossible to understand. But whatever. I’m very happy with my Alliaceae :)

What a fabulous piece and onions are so much fun to draw. How did you get your black to be so good. Great job

Carolina dijo...

Hi Dominique!
Thanks a lot! Yes, onions are really fun to draw. About the black, well, I put a lot of colors in there before adding black. And then it got somewhat ruined with the protective spray, it sort of stained the black area, duh...
Thanks for stopping by :)

Hey Carolina

You should do lots more coloured pencil work, you are really good at it :-) It's great how you got the colouring just right ...... I can send you some photos similar to the one here to practice on. I used them a few years ago to do some fruit and veg paintings.

Take care,
Paul

Wow, Carolina, what a great piece of work! You're right, that is a great photo to work from. I, too, admire how you got that rich dark background. I'd love to see you do more in coloured pencil :)

Santi dijo...

Carolina dijo...

Hey Paul!
Thank you very much, that's very kind of you to say, I really appreciate it :)
Thank you for your offer. I'll be more than glad (and honored) to try on them (though I think it'll take me a while ...)
Take care too :)

Hi Janet!
Thank you very much! It's funny that you mention the background. I really took my time to finish it, although was thinking that why bothering if black only would do the trick. Or maybe it's the spray that looks interesting? hehe (hope not!)
I'll try to make more cps. Someday I'll do one of your wonderful flowers, I've told you... :)
Warm regards,
Carolina

¡Hola Santi!
He aprendido con tu pintura, eh?
Muchos saludos,
Carolina

WOW! I second the motion - MORE, MAS colored pencils. Your black & white sketches are nice but this . . . WOW!

You do good work, my dear! And while being so busy being a mom & wife!

Hello Carolina,
I do like your coloured pencil work and love seeing the WIP. It is so interesting to see how people work, the background first and working forwards. As I don't do backgrounds.
You have captured the shine on the skin, the reflection and lovely details.. all on this small drawing. It is a great piece. Be proud of yourself.
Look forward to the next one.

Carolina dijo...

Hi Ken!
Thank you!! I'll try to make more cps. I really like them, and I'm feeling the pressure!!! ;)
See you around!
Carolina

Carolina dijo...

Hi Milly!
Thank you :) Yes, the wip shows the process, and I like seeing them too. I learn a lot doing that and it satisfies the 'curious inside'.
The shine on the skin was a little hard to do, but it ended up not that bad. Thanks:)
Warm regards,
Carolina

It's beautiful, Carolina! extraordinary onions. They look delicate and the coverings, paper thin the way they really are! A perfect reunion!

Hi Liz! Thanks a lot :) :):)

Carolina dijo...

¡Hola Julián!
Muchas gracias, eres tan amable!

Carolina dijo...

Muchas gracias Mar :)

Carolina

FERNANDO ARTAL dijo...

Carolina

Carolina!

The onions turned out really nice!

But did you render these in regular colored pencils or watercolor pencils?

You said it's been a while since you painted with colored pencils so that's why I ask.

Very lovely cebollos! An elegant arrangement. Thank you for your step by step.

Carolina dijo...

Hi Dean!
Thanks a lot for your words.
Yes, these are my regular polychromos, not watercolor cps. I actually don't have wc cps :) except for the ones my daughter uses at school...
Thanks again and best regards,
Carolina

Carolina dijo...

Hola R!
Thank YOU for stopping by and for kind words.

Carolina

Wow, this is so beautiful! I seem to have missed your posts because of a problem with my subscription - I was wondering why I hadn't seen anything lately!

Carolina dijo...

Hi Felicity!
You have been missed!!! I'm so glad it's been solved :D
Thank you for your kind words.
Lots of hugs,
Carolina
