Nuevas Clases de Pintura

Estudios de Telas - Cloth Studies
Carboncillo en papel A4- Charcoal on paper A4

New Painting Classes

Times goes by so fast! I can’t believe that 10 days have already passed since my last post!

Well, many things have been going on at home, kids had one more week of vacation because the president decided it in order to avoid more AH1N1 swine flu contagions, so things were a little bit moved around here with the kids :)

Today we restarted our routine, but the difference is that now I’m attending to new painting classes. The first ones were not bad, but I felt that I needed some more dynamism. Now I’ve got more of that, let’s see how it goes…

The new teacher reviewed my works (the ones that I have been posting here, plus one new one in progress), and she liked them. She gave me a couple of comments which I have already taken note of* and asked me what I wanted to do. And, in addition to seashells, I’m feeling attracted for the moment to cloths and pleats and shadows, so that’s what I did today. The cloths had a print and were textured, so it was really difficult for me to clearly notice the shadows and contrasts. It was a good exercise. Here I’m including the results of today’s work.

*I have a tendency to paint the backgrounds following the contour of the shapes in the foreground, and that can be noticed, and it doesn’t look good. She recommends me to avoid doing this, the background strokes can be independent from the foreground objects. And also, I have to work harder on contrasts and light/shadow values on my paintings.

Amazing job, Carolina. I also like background information you supplied about your backgrd/foregrd issue. Looking forward to seeing more from your current class.

Thank you Will! I really appreciate you stopping by and your kind comments.
I'm so glad you found the background info useful :)
Best regards,

I think the folds are great and your shading. Charcoal scares me. I do like your shell studies too.
I think you would love drawing a feather, good exercise, try it.
Thanks for your lovely comments.

Hi Milly!
I'm so glad to see you around, finally! :):):)
I have also stopped having trouble with other's blogs, maybe someone at Google repaired the system, who knows, at least it was not my computer...
Thank you so much for your comment, maybe someday I'll feel brave enough and give feathers a try :)
Best regards,
Carolina

Hola Carolina! Thank you for looking at my blog!

I am VERY jealous that you do fabric/cloth folds so well! I try to render folds with oil paint but all I seem to do is make LINES. The shadowing somehow escapes me most of the time.

Keep up the good work. I wish there was a place in my area where art classes were offered to adults. I suppose that's one thing I gave up when we moved to a small town. :-)

Talk to you later
Ken B.

Muchos saludos y gracias nuevamente

Carolina!

Nice cloth studies!

I was taught the exact same thing when I was in school. You can use the background strokes to make the foreground (main object) stand out as well.

If a piece is filled entirely with straight vertical lines but the main subject is composed of round, horizontal lines it will 'pop' against everything else.

I think that's similar to what your teacher was trying to convey.

Glad things are busy but going well for you!

Querida Loli :)

Thank you! I wish I had gone to art school! You're so lucky! Thank you too for your bits of knowledge, I appreciate and treasure them, you know, I wasn't told things that specifically and that's exactly the kind of class I would love to have.
Thanks again!

¡Hola!

Muchos saludos,
Carolina
