Fundamentos Visuales III

Hoy no fui a clases (muchas cosas que hacer en casa) ... así que pondré una entrada en mi querido blog.  Esta vez son tres ejercicios de la clase de Fundamentos Visuales III.  El objetivo es generar sensación de varios planos de profundidad usando la temperatura de los parámetros del color (tinte, tono y saturación). 

Quiero agradecer a Cindy Haase (https://www.facebook.com/CynthiaHaaseFineArt, http://cynhaase.blogspot.com/ ) y a Valerie Pye por permitirme usar una de sus pinturas y fotos, respectivamente, como referencia.

Todas las pinturas están hechas con pasteles Faber Castell con fijador, en cartulina Canson 180g A3 (41x29.7cm)

I didn't go to class today (too many things to do at home)... so I'm taking advantage of the extra time and posting on my dear blog.  This time it's three excercices for the Visual Fundaments III class.  The goal is to generate the sensation of multiple depth planes using color temperature in the three parameters of color: hue, value or tone, and saturation.  You can see them above.

I would like to thank Cindy Haase (https://www.facebook.com/CynthiaHaaseFineArt, http://cynhaase.blogspot.com/ ) and Valerie Pye for graciously letting me use one of her paintings and photos, respectively, as a reference for the grapes and face pieces above.

All the paintings are made with Faber Castell soft pastels, and fixative, over white Canson 180g paper, 16.4"x 11.88".

Creatividad vs tiempo

En los últimos meses no he tenido tiempo ni de poner la punta de un lápiz sobre un papel, pero sí he podido hacer algunas cosas creativas, contra el tiempo. Por ejemplo la otra vez, hace unas pocas semanas, hice la torta para el baby shower de mi hermana. Bueno, hice es un decir, porque en realidad compré las tortas hechas (en Wong -supermercado-), y lo único que hice fue decorarlas.

Y tenía varias razones para hacerlo: uno, mi horno está malogrado, dos, no tenía mucho tiempo para preparar las tortas, y tres, no me salen bien, nada en la cocina en general (aunque de vez en cuando logro alguna que otra "obra maestra"=irrepetible ;)

Me gustó reencontrarme con la masa elástica, puedo decir que ya le perdí el miedo (en mi cabeza no cabía cómo un círculo podía cubrir un cilindro sin hacer arrugas, es "geométricamente imposible", pero la masa elástica no piensa ni ha llevado clases de geometría, así que se le puede convencer).

Y bueno, echándole la culpa a la falta de tiempo, el modelo que hice fue inspirado por este otro que me pareció lindo.

Creativity vs. Time

In the last few months I have not found the time to put a pencil over a sheet of paper, but I was able to do some creative stuff, even against time. For instance, a few weeks ago, I made my sister's baby shower cake. Well, sayng I made it is not completely true because I actually bought the cakes (at the supermarket), and the only thing I did was decorating them.

And I had many reasons to do so: first, my oven is not working, two, I didn't have much time to prepare the cakes, and three, cakes I make are less than OK, as everything I make in the kitchen in general (although once in a while I get to make a "masterpiece" = unrepeatable ;)

I enjoyed meeting with fondant again, I can say I've lost the fear I had when planning to work with it (I couldn't understand how a circle could cover, smoothly and without wrinkling and folding, a cylinder, that is "geometrically impossible", but.... fondant doesn't think and neither has it taken geometry classes, so, it can be convinced).

And well, blaming the lack of time, I got the inspiration for the cake from this other one that I liked a lot.

¡Se hizo la luz!

Bueno, este es otro caso de pintura desesperada. Desesperada por salir. Luego del bajón del último post, que gracias a Dios ya se me está pasando (millones de gracias por todas sus alentadoras palabras, de corazón), me di cuenta de varias cosas que había perdido de vista un poco. Pintar se supone que debe ser divertido! Incluso si me estoy esforzando y saliendo de mi “zona cómoda”; no me debo comparar con nadie (no me debo comparar con nadie, no me debo comparar con nadie!!!); y debo hacer más cosas que me provoquen realmente.

Como el dibujo que pongo hoy. No es un tema muy común… pero qué importa! Fue lo que me  provocó hacer en ese momento (un sábado por la noche, donde no había ninguna presión de nada, los chicos se habían quedado a dormir en casa de sus abuelitos, mi esposo veía tele y yo lo acompañaba dibujando). Se cumplía lo que puse en mi perfil: mucho tiempo y espacio a mi disposición. Comencé a las 12 y terminé como a las 2 a.m., más o menos. Y sí, no salimos pues :)

And there was light!

Well, this is another case of desperate painting. Desperate for coming to light.  After my down of the last post, that thank God is already going away (million thanks for all your encouraging words, from the heart), I realized that I had somehow stopped considering a few things. Painting is supposed to be fun! Even if I’m trying hard and going out of my “comfort zone”; I shouldn’t compare myself with anyone else (I shouldn’t compare myself with anyone else , I shouldn’t compare myself with anyone else!!!); and I have to make more things that I really enjoy making.

Just like the drawing that I’m posting today.  It’s not much of a common subject, but …who cares! That’s what I felt like to paint at that moment (a Saturday night, where there was no pressure involved about anything, the kids were sleeping over at their grandparents, my husband was watching TV and I was by his side drawing).  I was having just what I have included on my profile:  a lot of time and space for me.  I started at 12 and finished around 2 a.m. And yes, we didn’t go out :)

“Le Jeu de la Sixième…”

O “El juego de la sexta…”.  Ese es el título del juego que me ha pasado Martine Alison del blog “Ma dollhouse joue un grand air de peinture”, un blog que dicho sea de paso está lleno de sorpresas artísticas muy agradables. Este juego consiste en colocar la sexta foto del blog en la entrada correspondiente y pasarlo a 10 personas, si no me equivoco. Y yo, con todo cariño, se los dejo a todos ustedes para que sigan el juego libremente. Me parece divertido y es una manera de revivir cosas que están por allá, en los albores de los blogs y prácticamente relegados al olvido :)

Le Jeu de la Sixième

Or “The game of the sixth…”. That’s the name of the game that Martine Alison, from the blog “Ma dollhouse joue un grand air de peinture”, (which by the way is full of very nice art surprises), has passed on to me.  This game consists in posting the sixth photo of the blog in the corresponding blog post and pass it on to 10 people, if I’m not wrong. And I, from the bottom of my heart, give it to you so that you can join in.  I think it’s fun and a good way to ‘revive’ things that are far there, at the dawn of the blogs and practically forgotten :)

¡Primer Aniversario de mi blog!

Torta de cumpleaños que le hice a mi hijo hace 4 años/

Birthday cake I made for my son 4 years ago

Estoy feliz, no puedo creer que este día haya llegado. Hace un año me preguntaba varias cosas al empezar este blog, y una de ellas fue si llegaría a esta fecha ¡y lo he logrado! Sin ningún tipo de obligación, ha sido todo una jornada de puro placer y diversión.

Voy a enumerar las principales conclusiones a las que he llegado sobre lo que este querido blog ha significado para mí durante este primer año, y luego incluiré un poquito de historia sobre cómo lo comencé:

• Tener un blog ha sido un estímulo para pintar y dibujar: ambas cosas me gustan, pero sin el blog no hubiera hecho ni siquiera lo poco que logré hacer este año.
• Conocí gente maravillosa a través del contacto en sus blogs y en el mío. Valoro mucho las amistades y la cercanía que hemos ido construyendo durante este año.
• Ha sido una oportunidad para mostrar lo que me gusta hacer, pues no lo había hecho antes, y se siente muy bien :)
• Mi blog se convirtió en mi espacio personal. Yo no salgo mucho para hacer cosas para mí, y dedico mucha parte de mi tiempo a mis hijos. Así que mi blog se convirtió en un oasis "a prueba de niños", donde encuentro compañía especial y estímulo para pintar.
• Además, es rico decir de vez en cuando "tengo mi blog", eso me hace sentir importante :)

Aprovecho la oportunidad para agradecer a todas las personas que siguen este blog y a todos los que dejan comentarios. En otros blogs he visto anuncios que dicen "Este blog se alimenta de tus comentarios", y es cierto, aunque más bien debería decir "este blogger"...

Este blog nació sin ningún objetivo claro ni ninguna pretención, y prácticamente de la noche a la mañana. Yo había estado siguiendo (mirando) algunos blogs sobre lápices de colores y pintura, incluso dejé contadísimos comentarios de manera anónima porque no tenía una cuenta en blogger. Hasta que me topé con el blog de Karin Jurick (Different Strokes From Different Folks). Allí no pude dejar los comentarios que quería porque no tenía cuenta, pero en ese tiempo yo pensaba que tenía que tener un blog :) y como tenía algunos dibujos guardados, me lancé (y participé en algunos desafíos de DSFDF hasta que el tiempo no me dio más).

Pero a pesar de no tener las cosas claras a nivel formal en mi mente, sí sabía que quería pintar más desde hacía tiempo. Y definitivamente este blogcito me ha ayudado mucho a lograrlo. Nunca se me hubiera ocurrido dibujar en la sala de espera de las clases de mi hijo o fuera de las clases de ballet de mi hija si no hubiera sido porque no tenía nada que postear para la siguiente semana. Estoy muy agradecida por eso.

Y si estás leyendo estas líneas en este momento, estoy MUY agradecida por eso también :)

My blog's first birthday!

I’m so happy, I can’t believe this day arrived. A year ago I had many doubts regarding this blog, and one of them was if I could get to this moment, and I made it! Without any kind of obligation, it’s been a journey of pure pleasure and fun!

I’ll list the main conclusions I’ve come up with about what this dear blog has meant to me during this first year, and then I’ll include a short story of how I started it.

• Having a blog has encouraged me to draw and paint: I love both things, but without the blog I wouldn’t have done even the very few works I could finish this year.
• I met wonderful people through the contact on their blogs and mine. I value a lot the friendships and the closeness that we have been building during this year.
• It has been an opportunity to show what I like to do, I had not done it before, and it feels so good :)
• My blog turned into a personal space. I don’t go out much to do things for myself, and I dedicate a lot of my time to my kids. So my blog has turned into a "child-free" oasis, where I find special company and encouragement to paint.
• In addition to all that, it’s nice to say once in a while “I have a blog”, that makes me feel important :)

I’ll take this opportunity to thank everyone that follows and/or leaves comments. I have seen on other blogs margin announcements that say “Your comments feed my blog”, and that’s true, although it should say “Your comments feed my soul”…

This blog was born with no clear objectives and no fancy pretensions, and practically in the blink of an eye. I had been following (visiting) some blogs about colored pencils and painting, I had even left a few comments anonymously because I had no blogger account. Until I found Karin Jurick’s blog (Different Strokes From Different Folks). I couldn’t leave any of the comments I wanted to leave there because I had no account, but at that time I thought I had to have a blog to do so :) and as I had a few drawings kept, I jumped in and started my blog (and participated in some of the DSFDF’ challenges until I had no time anymore).

But even though things were not crystal clear in my mind about blogging, I did know I had been wanting to paint more for a long time. And this little blog has most definitely helped me a lot to do that. I would have never thought of drawing in the waiting room of my son’s classes or outside my daughter’s ballet classes if I hadn’t had anything to post for the following week. I’m very grateful for that.

And if you’re reading these lines right now, I am VERY grateful too :)

Queridos amigos. Quiero desearles que pasen una linda y hermosa Navidad, junto con los que ustedes más quieren, sea en persona o en el corazón. Quiero agradecerles también por haber estado conmigo a través de este espacio en este 2009, por haber sido benevolentes y haberme dicho cosas lindas aunque no necesariamente hayan sido merecidas :) Gracias por acompañarme y por hacer que mi experiencia en el ciberespacio, una parte de mi vida, sea más feliz.

Today is a special day, because it is the birthday of my friend Ken Barklay (from the blog Ken Barklay - - Avocaken)!!! And I want to dedicate this post to him and wish him the best birthday ever, together with his lovely wife Melissa. Lots of greetings from Peru!
