Blog de mi tío Willy Gutiérrez

Este es un post pequeñito. Sólo para decirles que mi querido tío Willy, hermano menor de mi madre, ya tiene un blog. Él es un gran, GRAN artista, sólo que se dedica a la arquitectura y no pinta tanto como, según yo, debería. Tiene un gran talento, y además domina muchas técnicas (a que lo admiro?). Aprendió con un grande, su tío José Gutiérrez de las Infantas* (a quien yo no tuve la suerte de conocer, digo, lo vi un par de veces cuando él era ya muy mayor-->murió casi a los 100 años en 1997), y comenzó desde muy tierna edad (desde los 3 o 4 años ya mostraba sus habilidades).

Y yo, que me muero por pintar como él, no puedo creer que no se dedique más a esto. Así que trato de que lo haga, que comparta sus obras y que se dé a conocer. This is a short post. Just to let you know that my dear uncle Willy, my mother’s youngest brother, now has a blog! He is a great, GREAT artist, but he dedicates to architecture for a living and doesn’t paint as much as, from my point of view, he should. He is very talented, and he also dominates many techniques (do I admire him or what?) He learned with a great teacher, his uncle José Gutiérrez Infantas* (whom I had no luck to know, I mean, I saw him a couple of times when he was already very old-->he dyed almost at 100 years old in 1997), and started since his early childhood (ever since he was 3 or 4 years old his abilities started to bloom).

And I, that am dying to paint like he does, can’t believe he can't devote more time to art. So I try that he does, that he shares his artwork and become known. Quiero contarles

Esta foto es de la mesa que tuve en una pequeña feria de un día por el pasado día de la Madre. No estaba segura si compartirla o no, pero finalmente decidí que sí. En esta feria (primera vez que participo en una con solo pinturas, no es que participe en muchas ferias, tampoco, pero he participado una vez antes con dulces) estuve presentando principalmente pequeñas pinturas hechas por mi tío, Willy Gutiérrez Huby, y por allí aproveché y coloqué una mía ("Acércate"). Estaba muy emocionada porque iba a participar, realmente no tenía muchas expectativas de ventas (y realmente no se vendió nada, en realidad esperaba vender una), pero quería recibir el "feeling" de la gente.
Este contacto con "el público" me enseñó algunas cosas:
- las ferias de regalos no son el mejor lugar para vender este tipo de cosas (al menos en Lima)
- poca gente aprecia el arte (al menos en este tipo de eventos)
- a los que les gusta el arte son pocos pero se interesan mucho, son muy curiosos, aunque no preguntan tanto, sino más bien se sienten asombrados y observan
Una experiencia divertida (la pasé bien mientras pasaban las horas) que me enseñó a elegir mejor para la próxima vez...

This is the photo of the stand I had during a small one-day fair for the past Mother’s Day. I wasn’t sure whether to share it or not, but I finally decided to go for it. In this fair (first time I participate in one with paintings only –it doesn’t mean that I do a lot of fairs either, but I have participated once before, with chocolates) I presented mainly small paintings made by my uncle, Willy Gutiérrez Huby, and I also put one of mine (“Acércate - Get Closer”). I was very excited because I was going to participate, although I really didn’t have high sale expectations (and I really didn’t sell anything! I was expecting to sell just one…), but I rather was interested on people’s reactions.
The contact with the “public” taught me a couple of things:
-gift fairs are not the best place to sell this kind of stuff (at least in Lima)
-few people appreciates art (at least in this kind of event)
-those who like art are few but are VERY interested, are very curious, although not really asking a lot of questions, but feeling amazed and concentrating on observing.
A fun experience (I had a nice time as hours went by) that taught me to chose better next time…
