Una Anémona Terminada

La terminé. He quedado contenta con el resultado final, claro que siempre puede estar mejor, pero estoy más que contenta de todas formas. Es el tipo de trabajo que me da más gusto hacer, por varias razones:

(1) El tema. Para mí fue casi como pintar una planta, que me encanta (igual sospecho que no debe ser del agrado masivo, pues aunque las anémonas se pusieran de moda con "Buscando a Nemo", esta me ha salido más del tipo National Geographic que del tipo Hollywoodense. Es más, creo que al verla dirán: "qué bicho raro" :).

(2) Luego, disfruté pintando sobre papel oscuro (no suelo hacerlo mucho, es más, es la primera vez que trabajo sobre negro).

(3) Y la relación esfuerzo y tiempo vs resultado es de lo más reconfortante (sólo dos mañanas). Para mí eso es un récord.

De vez en cuando, entre reto y reto (me refiero a los retos personales autoimpuestos), vale la pena darse gustos como este (o como éste, de una sola tarde).

I’m done. I’m happy with the final result, of course it can always be better, but I’m more than happy anyway. This is the most pleasurable kind of piece for me, for many reasons:

(1) The subject. It was almost like painting a plant, which I LOVE (but I suspect this subject might not be liked by many. Although anemones became ‘fashionable’ since we saw “Finding Nemo”, this one is more in a National Geographic’s style rather than in a Hollywood-like style. I even think many people will say “what a weird bug” :)

(2) In addition, I enjoyed painting over dark paper (something I’m not used to do, in fact, this is the first time I work on black paper).

(3) And the ratio effort & time/result is very comforting (only two mornings). That, for me, is a record.

Once in a while, between challenges (I’m referring to auto-imposed personal challenges), I find it’s worth it to indulge myself like this (or like this, which took me 1 afternoon).

Una Anémona en Progreso

Hoy voy a hacer algo demasiado osado para mi gusto, y que ya he hecho anteriormente: Poner un trabajo en progreso. Ya sé la tensión que esto significa, el incremento de presión a mí misma porque ahora la pintura DEBE salir bien. Pero el último post es un poco aburrido, así que mejor pongo algo más creativo.
Me inspiré a hacer esta animalito al leerle un libro a mi hija antes de dormir (la enciclopedia de Winnie Pooh sobre animales marinos). Las fotos son lindas. De allí salió justamente mi modelito.
Otra parte de mi inspiración salió del blog Leslie's Art Blog. Cuando vi su dibujo quedé fas-ci-na-da y me dije a mí misma que tendría que intentar algo en ese estilo algún día. Ahora lo estoy haciendo, espero quedar contenta con los resultados. Ya veremos... (ahora es cuando cierro mis ojos y presiono "publicar")

Today, I’m going to do something too daring as per my philosophy. Something that I have already done: post a work in progress. I know about the tension this means, the raise in self-inflicted pressure because the painting MUST now turn out well.
But my last post is a little bit boring, so I’d better post something a bit more creative. My inspiration to paint this creature came from reading a bed time book to my daughter (Winnie Pooh’s encyclopedia of marine animals). Photos are cute. That’s where I got my little model.
Another part of my inspiration came from Leslie’s Art Blog. When I saw her drawing I was fascinated and told myself that someday I ‘d have to try something on that style. Now I’m on that, I hope at the end I’ll be happy with the outcome. We’ll see… (now is when I close my eyes and click on "publish post")
